What is The female burden?

The female burden: Autistic experience beyond sex labels is an independent study about assigned female at birth (AFAB) autistic individuals and the intersections between gender diversity, autistic traits, and diagnosis access.

This proposal aims to have AFAB autistic people constructing knowledge about their own realities to provide scientific insights beyond "he" and "she". This study aims to situate autism within a framework that focuses on understanding the complex personhood of AFAB autistic individuals in order to move beyond previous male-biased research.

It argues that the experiences of people on the spectrum can be better understood considering the overlap between autistic traits and gender diversity. Hopefully, the project results will improve healthcare for women, gender diverse, and transgender people on the autism spectrum.
